The Forgotten Tomato: The Beginnings
So today my wife dragged me to this ooh la la place "la Madeleine" to eat today. As you can probably guess, it is a French inspired place. The wife ordered her lunch and I ordered a breakfast. I ordered, the niftily named, Breakfast Croissant, which is basically a breakfast croissant. Nothing Earth shaking about the sammich. Along side that on my plate were two relatively small pieces of tomato, to set off the presentation I guess.
I plowed through the sammich and it was really good; except the croissant wasn't substantial enough to hold up it's part. No problème, (How about that from 8th Grade French class, huh?) I grabbed two pieces of bread, from the bar area where the tea and silverware was, and turned my sammich into a two bread sammich! Was A-Ok from then on! So I got down to my last bite.
The problem is there were the two pieces of tomato just sitting there. I looked over at the table beside me and there was a plate that was empty... except for the tomato pieces. So i was sitting there debating about whether it was for eating or to dress up the plate a little. It took a couple minutes to decide whether or not to eat the tomatoes. Finally I put one into my mouth and it was great! Tomato #2 was just as yummy!
I looked back at the plate on the other table again and was saddened. Here is a super little tomato just sitting there ready to be eaten and it will just be dumped into the trash! No one will ever know how marvelous it was or wasn't. No one will ever feel like writing a new column good or like writing a new column bad. And friends, that tomato just bummed me the heck out. Thankfully I took my medicine earlier. So my medicine that lightens my load of anger kept me from getting even more sad/ irate about the tomatoes. At that exact moment I decide to make a new column!
The Forgotten Tomato, is going to be an inspirational column that showcases otherwise overlooked "tomatoes" and gives them the fame they deserve! It will be about people, ideas, passages, sayings, and most likely many other things. We are going to give praise to the people who deserve it!
Look out!! We are coming!
